Rustic Modern

I absolutely adore this kitchen- the rustic and modern elements are in perfect collision with each other creating a warm and inviting space. I would love to have a dinner party at that table!  I have been a fan of these pendants for some time now, after seeing them used in this stunning interior I knew I needed to share my top 3! The Steven and Chris Kingston light we have had on display before, it never stays up for long. Quorum recently made their own version of the island light which I am anxious to see in person. And the ELK light I think is the closest match to the one in Alexis Toureau picture and is as gorgeous as ever.

All three of the chandeliers spotlighted here use natural elements to create stunning chandeliers. The updated basket is a trend I don't see going away any time soon. Take these different interiors, all different in style elements but using similar lighting, all the interiors are perfectly polished and put together.
The Marrid collection is made with little polished rocks or stones, of different colors strung together with a bead in between each rock. the overall effect looks much more elegant than anything I could come up with collecting pebbles from my nature walk. If you can zoom in to see the detail it is mighty impressive.
Hamlet is an updated basket-style chandelier that features strands of delicate, chain-wrapped natural rope alternating with strands of light amber crystal.
The Dolcetti has shells and crystals which are set in a stainless setting and are dripping from a circular shell inlaid frame. Take a look at the close up of the shells, the hand crafted setting is beautiful!

The top picture is the inspiration look, I can not find that fixture, I have looked and looked. (Murray Feiss makes a bronze one here) I did find some stunning brass drum fixtures while searching for that pendant, I wanted to share and a few of them (and the interiors to go along with the fixtures). I realize I am all over the brass these days, have I gone overboard?

Under Cabinet Lighting

Here are a few of the most commonly used under cabinet lighting systems. Kitchens are the biggest gathering room in most homes, good lighting is very important in your kitchen. Under cabinet lights add depth, dimension, are both functional and decorative. These are the finishing touches you do not want to miss in your home.

Halogen, Xenon, and fluorescent bars or strip lights are popular under cabinet lighting options. All of these can be plugged into an electrical outlet or hardwired to a power source. These light systems will link together creating a continuous light source to illuminate any length of counter top.
Puck Lights
Puck lights are another option, more often than not pucks are a 12 volt system, so they require a transformer. Most pucks use halogen or xenon light bulbs and are 20 watts each. A puck light can be recessed or surface mounted. Pucks create a spot light effect although the effect can change by changing the glass lens; there are color filters as well as spread lenses and diffusers.
LED tape
There are many options in under cabinet lighting with LED tape being the most popular request as of late; it is a great option if you have a matte surface, if you do not like to change light bulbs and if you need a low profile option. There are a few things to keep in mind with LED, as this picture above illustrates on a high gloss (like most granite) surface the bulbs are reflective and will be very noticeable. If you have a lip under your cabinets I recommend mounting the LED tape to the side of the lip so that it does not shine directly onto the counter top. This will diffuse the harsh light so the reflection is less noticeable. I wish I had a good picture to show the difference, I will have to try to find one.
LED light requires a driver, most systems have drivers that can be hardwired or drivers that will plug into an outlet.

Cleaver Mounting

Photo's from Desire to Inspire
Design by Laura Alvarez Architecture

Do you know what I love about these pictures, other than the gorgeous space and design; I love how the pendants are mounted to the ceiling. You can tell from the second picture that they have used only one power source here to mount 3 individual pendants that is why there are cords swaging from all the canopies. This is a very creative way to use an off-centered power source. The power is connected to the pendant on the far end and then the power is swung to the other canopies. Not many people would realize that the cords are not meant to be exposed and linking to the other canopies like this- Very cleaver problem solving going on here, very cleaver indeed!

Inspiration: Luxury Flat at One Hyde Park

Flat at One Hyde Park

Photo's from The Daily Mail

Hyde Park

The lighting in this flat is incredible, this luxurious apartment is for sale on one of the most prestigious streets in London. I saw this article today on The Daily Mail, one of my favorite newspapers, and had to post it for inspiration. I would be surprised if all the lighting was not custom made for this space, it's perfectly dreamy!Could you ever get sick of a view like that? I know I could not!
